Alexis Efrain Benitez Pinto
Hillsboro Rotary Student of the Month from Liberty High School last week was Senior Alexis Efrain Benitez Pinto.
Alex, as he likes to be called, was accompanied by his proud high school teacher Katy Shelton and friend Katie Gonzalez Juarez. Alex came to Oregon in the third grade and has seen a huge difference in how much he has grown mentally and physically.
It has been a great wild ride since freshman year and having fun played a huge part! Alex plans to attend Portland State University where he earned a full-ride scholarship. He would like to pursue a law degree and be an immigration attorney. He was inspired by a friend who recently graduated from PSU in this same area of study. We wish Alex success in all his endeavors!

Leslye Gonzalez Juarez
Hillsboro Rotary Student of the Month from Liberty High School last week was Senior Leslye Gonzalez Juarez.
Leslye was accompanied by her proud high school teacher Katy Shelton and special guest Katie Gonzalez Juarez. Leslye addressed how several teachers encouraged her to push herself forward and open up to more possibilities. She had an opportunity to go to Washington DC through a nomination from the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics) program.
Leslye plans to attend Portland State University where she earned a full ride scholarship. She would like to pursue a fine arts degree in digital marketing. We wish Leslye much success in all her future endeavors!

Johanna Dezellem
Hillsboro Rotary’s Student of the month from Glencoe High School last week was Senior Johanna Dezellem. Johanna was accompanied by her high school woodworking teacher Mike O’Conner and her proud mother Stacy Dezellem.
Johanna began by thanking the Rotary Club for the honor of being the student of the month. Her favorite and most influential classes are her woodworking class where she loves to make things with her hands, and her psychology class which has helped guide her toward a possible career with kids.
Johanna is a Glencoe Surf Tide leader in an advisory class for younger high school students showing them all about Glencoe as a community. Johanna was actively involved in her civics and community service class putting together a ‘clothing closet in the basement of the school. The students worked together to gather much-needed clothing and supplies to donate to community families in need.
Johanna is active with gymnastics and is a volunteer gymnastic coach with the Flight School Gymnastics Center. Johanna plans to attend Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she will pursue special education or school psychology. We wish Johanna success in all her endeavors!

Jose Sanchez Gonzales
Hillsboro Rotary’s Student of the month from Hillsboro School District’s Early College Program last week was Senior Jose Sanchez Gonzales. Jose was accompanied by his very proud high school teacher & counselor, Anya Hershberger, school counselor Alaina Haig and his parents Ismael and Laura Gomez.
Jose is excited he will be graduating early in the bilingual program at his school. He plans to continue his studies at Warner Pacific University with a focus on business administration and will be playing soccer there in the fall. Jose is a first-generation student in the bilingual, (Spanish/English) program. We wish him success in all his endeavors!

Hailey Fogelman
Hillsboro Rotary’s Student of the month from Liberty High School last week was Senior Hailey Fogelman. She was accompanied by her high school teacher, Cari Ventura.
Hailey began her talk by thanking the Rotarians. Hailey stays active in her community and is the current president of the Best Buddies club at the high school. This program promotes one-on-one friendships between students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those without a disability, within the school. Hailey plans to pursue college at the University of Oregon in business administration with an emphasis in sports business. Hailey would like to one day work for a professional sports team and mentioned increasing the fan experience.

Bryan Lowe
Hillsboro Rotary’s Student of the month from Century High School last week was Bryan Lowe. He was accompanied by his High School Councilor, Scott Thomas, and his proud mother.
Bryan began his talk by explaining to the Rotary club that his grandpa was a Rotarian in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bryan grew up in Tucson, Arizona until he was 13 years old and then moved to the Hillsboro area for his father’s work. It is never fun to start over in a new community and new school for a teenager, but Bryan rose to the challenge and began connecting with great friends and teachers. He mentioned he owes a lot to the teachers at Century High School, and they were instrumental in his success throughout his high school days.
Bryan was on the speech and debate team for 4 years and was actively involved in over 20 debate tournaments. Bryan enjoyed jumping and sprinting with the track team and was actively involved in student congress. Bryan has plans to go on a mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and then pursue his schooling at Brigham Young University where he plans to study Chemistry with an emphasis on Volcanos.
